Questions
- Is what I type uploaded anywhere?
- No. The whole application is carried as WebAssembly and runs on your own device. There is no server to send anything to, and none of these tools makes a network request while it works.
- Why does a size converter keep telling me to check the maker's chart?
- Because a size is a convention rather than a measurement. Two makers put different numbers on the same garment, and the same number on two shelves in one shop can differ by a whole size. What is converted here is a number; what decides whether something fits is the measurement it came from, which is why every one of these gives that too.
- Which cup, which gallon, which gigabyte?
- Whichever you choose — and the answer says so. There are four cups in common use, two gallons, two pints and two meanings of a gigabyte. A converter that picks one silently is wrong for everybody who meant the other.
- Why will the wire tool not give a current rating?
- Because that number is not a property of the metal. What a conductor may safely carry depends on its insulation, how it is installed, whether it is bundled with others, the ambient temperature and the wiring regulations where you are. A figure from a web page would be read as permission. The geometry and the resistance are properties of the copper, and those it gives.
